Phase 3: The Seasoned Professional

Roles & Encounters For actuaries with a long, successful career who are prepared to take on advanced leadership roles within their organization.

Ask for meetings with C-suite members. Share your expertise with senior leadership, and provide concrete examples of how your skills are turning risks into opportunities.
 
Be a mentor. Learn about the challenges facing young professionals and share some of the lessons you’ve learned by developing a mentoring relationship with an actuary who is just beginning his or her career.
 
Lead discussions about the actuarial profession. Reach influential audiences including C-suite members, nontraditional industry leaders and your fellow actuaries by presenting and leading discussions at national conferences or other high-profile events on the actuarial profession.
 
Revisit your professional interests. Your interests may evolve as your career progresses, so don’t be afraid to explore new focus areas.
 
Assume leadership role with professional actuarial organization. Help lead the conversation about the future of the profession by assuming a leadership role with a professional organization.
 
Continue to be team player. Your expertise is needed more than ever, so make sure you remain committed to collaborating with others to achieve success for your organization.
 
Never stop marketing yourself or your skills. Keep looking for ways to be an advocate for yourself, your staff and the profession.
